Most often the circumstances that lead us to need an estate contents sale are sad and stressful. As family, we find ourselves having to deal with all the practical issues of a loved one's death or their move to a care residence. Often decisions have to be made quickly.
How fortunate, then, my husband & I were to find Great Estates, owned by Veronica Harding. Working on our schedule & time restraints (we live 3 hours away), Veronica & her crew took care of every detail, from first meeting & consultation to final clean- up for the contents sale at our Mother's home.

I want you to know how much I appreciate the truly exceptional work that you did in selling the contents of my Mother's home.
Your good work started with your perception that value existed in the rather unusual "technical" contents of this house. Where most would not even bother to understand - you saw these items as "something very interesting" and "worth your attention."
I was impressed that you do not take on any contract casually. You, and your associates, went through the house twice -- quite thoroughly -- and you clearly gave significant thought to the requirements -- before accepting the job.
When you went through the house, you quickly pointed out the items that were most interesting, and you provided many very helpful suggestions (including your suggestion to check with other family members for other pieces of an old dining room set - which turned out to be worth our effort). You saw value in many items that WE only perceived to be junk!
The fact that you could bring such a depth of experience, and wealth of established contacts, gave my whole family confidence right from the start.
Beyond your own research resources, you were able to consult with a wide range of experts (tool and die makers, rare book dealers, movie set suppliers, and others) so you could establish the most realistic price points for each item. In fact, I was quite astonished at how much care and attention you gave to make sure that each item was priced correctly.
I was even more impressed when you, and your crew, started work on organizing the house for the sale! What an incredible flurry of activity! Everyone knew exactly what to do -- and they set to work with earnest! Each item was treated with care and respect. China was cleaned, silverware was polished and old furniture was brought back to life.
My Mother was so happy that you found the $20 bill lodged in the back of an old cabinet; and I was very pleased that you carefully put aside a number of letters, and other personal items, that you discovered during your preparations.
I was also amazed that your crew undertook the enormous task of going through the large heap of items that we had discarded as "junk" - and rescued (and even reassembled) these items for the sale!
Throughout the process, you made everything so much easier by being available to answer any questions. I definitely appreciated your very prompt responses to each of my telephone calls and emails.
The sale itself happened exactly on schedule. You clearly did your best to ensure we obtained the best possible price for each item - and I know my Mother appreciates that so many items found such good homes:
-the dining room table to a newly married couple who had just moved to Mississauga;
-the train set to a lady for her new step-son who loves trains;
-the wedding dress and metal chairs to a lady that buys props for movies; and
-the fridge, and numerous kitchen items, to a refugee family new to Canada.
Additionally, I was so pleased at the care and compassion you showed with the unsold items -- which went to such worthy charities, including:
- unsold clothing dropped off to a women's shelter;
- unsold sheets/blankets/towels delivered to an animal shelter; and
- 3 trips to Goodwill Industries.
And you didn't stop there!
You cleaned, and washed out, the fridge before sale. You even cleared out the kitchen cupboards.
At the end of the work, the house was clean, the remaining junk was put (as we requested) in the garage; and you even placed the remaining items (of value) neatly together.
You completed the project by providing a very helpful written report on how the sale progressed, and on the final disposition of the contents.
It is absolutely certain that, should I ever get an opportunity, I would readily and whole-heartedly recommend your fine service to anyone!

Along with the legal aspect as Power of Attorney and executor, the task of clearing out the entire house was overwhelming, as I had very little time after the funeral and no contacts in Toronto. I feel fortunate to have found The Great Estate Sale. From our very first telephone conversation, I felt comfortable and in "good hands" as she was confident and forthright. After speaking with a variety of people, I was at a cross road at what to do with my brother's house contents after he died.
